Newsletter - Semester 2

We want every kid in the world to be excited about the many possibilities coding can unlock- for themselves, for their communities and for society.”

- Sundar Pichai

With the inspiration from this beautiful message from the CEO of google, we would like to welcome you all to our Joy School and the 2nd semester of the 2021-2022 school year! The teachers and students have wonderfully settled into a wonderful routine and have established relationships that are supporting both our academic and behavior goals.

The second semester has brought an even growth in students, and progress in reaching the goals of our academic plan. The Joy School community believes that, “The love for learning, high academic achievement and parental involvement are keys to a lifelong education.”

Over the past five months, our students have been given the opportunity to further develop their reading, writing and math skills, while depending on their own knowledge and understanding of the world.

We recently conducted our mid-year assessments and the data we got back is quiet promising. The comprehension strategies, how to help children understand what they read, the strategies that we continue to focus on include:

Using schema and making connections (text-to-self, text-to-self, text-to-world): A students background knowledge and experiences that makeup what he/she is.

  • Sensory images/ Visualizing: Using mental pictures and senses.

  • Asking questions: Thoughtful readers ask questions before, during and after their reading.

  • Inferring: Using prior knowledge and textual clues to draw conclusions.

  • Determining importance: using what is known to distinguish important from unimportant information.

  • Summarizing and synthesizing: Readers monitor overall meaning, important concepts and themes as they read.

  • Monitoring comprehension: Using your inner conversations, leaving tracks as you read to help better understand the text.

When your child is reading, take time to sit beside them, talk to them about what did they read. Many students at the elementary level learn quickly how to read the words printed on the page, but it takes real work for them to learn how to make sense of what they are reading. The above strategies will just serve the purpose; they turn your child from a “reader” to a “thinker”.

4. Sports week :

The November month has its significance as we have a day dedicated specially to children on the birthday of our late Prime Minister Pandit. Jawahar Lal Nehru. To integrate sports as a part of our regular day-to-day activities, a distinct range of games were practiced by kids and competitions were held on 13th November. Winners in various competitions were felicitated on the Children’s Day event and thus sports week gave the required spirit and enthusiasm for the upcoming events.

The children’s day celebrations filled the young hearts with happiness and spread the bliss of innocence and the freedom that every child has. The dreams of these young children have to come true and they all should be blessed with good health, wealth, prosperity and happiness always.
