The Joy School Curriculum is organised into multiple areas of learning:

Pre-Primary

Literacy

Literacy for the young children refers to their capacity, confidence and disposition to use language in multiple forms. Teachers at our Joy School provide early literacy activities and children are trained on their LSRW skills. Oral language develops through speaking, listening, singing, storytelling and having conversations with children about topics that interests them. We encourage the development of written skills through scribbling, drawing, tracing writing and making marks using a variety of materials.

Numeracy

Numeracy taught in early childhood education is designed to provide a foundation children need to succeed in elementary school and beyond. Children are taught with pre-math concepts and guess estimations before they actually start dealing with numbers. Children are naturally visual so they are introduced to numbers through representation or pictures. Teaching through representation or pictures will allow children to make connections between the real world and the math skills that are vital for academic success.

Themes

Themes are sometimes referred to as “Theme units” or “Thematic units”.  They are centered on a specific topic — like I Me and My self, Community Helpers, Food, Plants, Animals and transportation and so on. Once the topic is decided, many of the learning activities, field trips are planned around it. Themes are basically a way to tie early childhood subjects together with an overriding concept. It helps their brains to make connections faster.

Primary

English

At Joy school, children are encouraged to be more eloquent in English.  We train them in an active yet informal way. We exclusively focus on their LSRW (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) skill development. Phonic is dealt strongly to help the students to know the rules of reading and learn language.

Mathematics

The school follows a conventional approach to Math. We respect the age-old practices such as the learning of tables and Mental Maths. Innovative worksheets, real life experiences make Math easily understandable. Through structured learning and activities, children are encouraged to understand basic mathematical concepts, which cover shape, space and position, pattern and relationships, measures and numeracy.

EVS / Science

EVS/Science at Joy school emphasizes on hands and minds-on approach to learning. Students are given enough opportunities to interact with the natural world to have direct experience. The students are encouraged asking "why" questions to seek greater understanding about objects. EVS/Science is not limited with in the classroom or the lab; Field trips and experiments are conducted to add an interesting dimension to learning. The projects and the E-content makes learning come alive.

Second Language

Our teachers work on building respect for the National and regional languages. The School offers Hindi and Telugu as second language options. Parents can choose any of the two languages for their children.

ICT

ICT has given new dimension to the children’s learning.

There is a computer lab facility to support the children’s learning activity. This has really improved student engagement and teamwork with peers. All the classrooms have online access to a large number of educational websites thereby making learning a fun for children.

Performing Arts (Dance, Drama & Music)

The performing arts help the students with the opportunity to engage the mind, the body and emotions into a collaborative expression of all that it means to be human. Through study and performance, students explore and present great themes and ideas.

Physical Education

To inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship and to emphasize on physical fitness, school has a wide arena of sports facilities. It helps in their gross motor development.
